January through March - When the lake is frozen solid (even ice augars need extentions), Ice fishing is the main sport on the pond, with virtual ice hut villages seen all over the lake,

but there is also snowshoeing, cross-country and downhill skiing have always been favorite winter sports, here in the Sabattus area. 

There are even car races in the middle of the lake once the ice gets to it's thickest.

Snowmobilers can select from a vast area of interconnecting groomed trails and unlimited lake travel. Check out the Snowmobile, Maine Website. Guests may snowmobile directly from cottage. Hundreds of miles of nationally renowned, excellent, groomed ITS trails right from the cottage. Cross country ski trails abound and downhill skiing is available in Lost Valley Ski Resort or Snow-tubing at Pine Haven Recreation in nearby Lisbon. Ice skaters can test their blades at the arena in Lewiston.

The Maine Woods Cottage is perfect for families or couples looking for a place to swim, fish, canoe, or kayak. Parents can watch their children play on the beach from the porch or lay in comfort on sand beside them. The swimming area is shallow and sandy with a slow gradual slope to deeper waters.

Water sports include swimming, boating, water skiing, jetskiing, tubing, and sailing. Those who prefer, may just want to rest and relax in a picturesque setting.

You can enjoy privacy with quiet evenings, listening to the cry of the loons on summer nights. Or bring your power boat for a cruise around the lake. You won't have time to get bored.

Golfer's can enjoy the excellent 9-Hole Apple Valley Golf Course or dine at several restaurants nearby.

We also have our Great Falls Balloon Festival every August! What a sight to see!! We even had a balloon land right in front of us!

September through November and the Fall Hunting Season - Fall is the prettiest of seasons, here in Sabattus. Mother Nature is at her best. The trees are ablaze with different shades of yellow, orange and red. Nothing can compare to the New England fall foliage. September heralds bear hunting season; followed by grouse, woodcock and deer hunting in October and November (only deer archery in October). There is an excellent shooting range in nearby Auburn if you prefer trap shooting.
